Yvonne J. (Gendron) Nelson

May 23, 1917 — April 13, 2015

Yvonne J. Nelson “Grandma Honey” passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Monday, April 13, 2015 with her daughter at her side at the age of 97. Honey was born in Niagra, Wisconsin to William and Laura (Broullire) Gendron on May 23, 1917.

Honey met the love of her life, Gilbert “Gib” Nelson and they were married for 67 years before his passing. They were blessed with two children, Dick and Penny. Gib and Honey enjoyed the outdoors, whether in their cabin on Tims Lake, or traveling the country in a camper or motor home. In more recent years wonderful family memories were made at the cottage on Legend Lake.

Grandma Honey was always the life of the party and brought a smile to those around her with the stories she told. She was very active and independent all her life. She was a volunteer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 72 years, and was one of the oldest members.

One of the greatest joys in Grandma Honey's life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The attended endless sports activities for all of them, and always had a hug and word of encouragement for them when the game was over. They were her pride and joy, and they all loved her dearly.

Honey was blessed with love and support from her little sister, Laura, “favorite” nieces and nephews, and especially her loving daughter, Penny.
Honey is survived by her daughter Penny (Ed) Mix of Legend Lake; sister Laura Merckx of Kaukauna; grandchildren: Dr. Kelly Mix-Stork (Dr. Robert Stork) of Meridian, Idaho and Chad (Michelle) Mix of New London; five great grandchildren: Chris Crain; Payton, Mc Coy, Kenna, and Jensen Mix.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Dick, brothers: Bill (Connie) Gendron and Dave (Neva) Gendron; brother-in-law Frank Merckx.
Honey requested that no formal funeral service be held. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Online condolences can be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com.

Her family would like to thank ThedaCare Hospice for the love and care they gave Mom and her family. Thank you to the Lions Club for building the wheelchair ramp. Also, to St. Elizabeth Fremont 4 staff, what a great gift you are to your patients.
