Winnifred June Petersen

June 15, 1915 — March 8, 2002

Age 86, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 08, 2002 at Colony Oaks Care Center. Winnifred was born on June 15, 1915 in Appleton, WI the daughter of William and Ernestine (Bohm) McCarey. She graduated from Appleton High School. She was life long resident of Appleton. Winnifred married Robert J. Petersen on July 11, 1938 in
Appleton. Robert preceded her in death on July 4, 1989 after 51 years of marriage.
She was a volunteer and chairman at The Red Cross for 50 years, during her volunteer work she aided residents at Winnebago Mental Health Hospital. She was a faithful member of St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, member of the Alter Guild and a former member of the choir. Winnifred loved to read, do crossword puzzles and spend time with family and friends. She also loved golfing, and was especially proud of her hole in one on the number 2 hole at Winnegamie Golf Course.

Winnifred is survived by, one son, Robert W. (Judith) Petersen, Appleton; two sisters-in-law, Leila Baetz, Appleton and Arline Emrich, Appleton; four nieces, Marion (Carl) Wenzel, Joyce (Larry) Schubring, Tena Bogle and Phyllis Saliture; one nephew, Jim (Cindy) Emrich; and one special great-grandniece, Elise Johnson; also survived by other relative and friends.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Marjorie Hackbert, Lucile McCarey, Virginia Terrien, Eileen McCarey and Betty Bogle; one twin brother, William McCarey; and an infant brother, Thomas McCarey.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 11, 2002 at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church (129 S. Mason St.) at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David F. Pagel and Rev. Jeffrey A. Verbeke officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday, March 10, 2002 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again on Monday directly at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service (11:00 a.m.). Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.

The family wishes that any memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church or The American Red Cross – Outagamie Chapter.
