December 28, 1925 — October 27, 2009

BRANNAN, WILLIAM M.
“Bill”

William M. Brannan, age 83, of Appleton, passed away at Cherry Meadows Hospice, Appleton, on Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Bill was born on December 28, 1925, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the son of the late William and Esther (Karn) Brannan and the brother of Lorraine Rudolph, Janet Hogan and Donna Olsen. Bill is survived by nieces and nephews, all of St. Louis. He joined the United States Navy in 1942 and served on the U.S.S. Maryland as a Seaman First Class, seeing action in the Philippines. Bill was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war he met and later married Dorothy (Dolly) Herrmann on September 12, 1948; she preceded him in death on May 14, 1997. They had two girls: Anne E. (Stephen) Young, Fairview, Texas and Barbara A. (Nathan) Hibbs, New Bern, North Carolina. His grandchildren include Jason (Amy) Young of Milwaukee, and Sarah (Ben) Merigold of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is further survived by his great granddaughter, Leila Merigold. Bill's life was that of a loving husband and father. He was employed by the telephone company throughout his working career, both in St. Louis and in Appleton. Bill enjoyed working in his yard, raising roses, and serving on church council and several committees at Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church. Upon his retirement he became an avid golfer and loved traveling, emailing and spending time with his family and friends. Throughout his life he was a true servant—helping friends and family with all sorts of projects and odd jobs. His attention to detail made each of his endeavors a success. Bill will be missed by many folks including his friends at Ridgeview Highlands and The Renaissance. Funeral services for William will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009, at MOUNT OLIVE EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 930 E. Florida Avenue, Appleton, with Rev. Ben Berger officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the caregivers and staff at The Renaissance and Cherry Meadows. A memorial has been established in Bill's name to benefit the American Cancer Society (3311 S. Packerland Drive, DePere, WI 54115).
