VERMEERN, WILLIAM H. “BILL”

William H. Vermeern, age 57, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Cherry Meadows after a long illness. Bill was born on October 28, 1954 in Appleton, the son of Henry and Shirley (Lecker) Vermeern. He moved to Richmond, Virginia with his family as a boy and graduated from John Randolf Tucker High School. Bill returned to Appleton where he resided and worked as a carpenter.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 27 years, Deb and his daughters, Kate (Janis) Sils and Amanda (Leo) Sidran and his granddaughters, Zelta Bea Sils and Sol Parker Sidran.

Bill is further survived by his sister, Sue Sylvia and her children Megan Sylvia and Sarah (Tony) Long; brothers: Fred (Cindy) Vermeern and their children Kelly (Kyle) Popp and Max Vermeern; Mark (Effie Hancock) Vermeern and Tom Vermeern; aunt/sister-in-law, Mary (Steve) Boese and brother-in-law, Skip (Jane) Boese and many nieces and nephews.
He leaves behind his lifetime best friend, Norm Blount and the other “brothers” who shared his journey: Bill Hansen, George Tong, Mike Lecker, Bob Lecker, Greg Osowski, Mike Whitten and his little “buddy” Max, his special dog.

Bill was a beloved son, husband, father, brother and friend. His loss is immeasurable to those who were blessed to know him. He demonstrated extreme courage during his illness and was fortunate to have constant support by devoted family and friends. Special thanks to Pastor Mark Henke who gave comfort in his final hours.

Bill will be remembered for his passion for life and his loyalty as a relative and friend. He loved to travel and left behind wonderful memories of trips that we will all cherish. He was a philosophizer and a gamesman, and brought his competitive spirit to every game in which he participated. We smile to remember him playing high school basketball, golf, bowling, poker and in his final days, his fantasy leagues.

We're most grateful to Cherry Meadows and staff, Dr. Jack Swanson and Mary, Bill's hospice nurse, who kept him comfortable.

The memorial service for Bill will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, December 19, 2011 at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME. Rev. Mark Henke will be officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Fox Valley Lutheran High School, Bethany Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
