MARKWARDT, WILLIAM F.

Bill Markwardt, age 77 years, passed on peacefully at Cherry Meadows, Appleton, on Friday, July 20, 2007, to join his wife, Anne; his parents, William F. and Anne (Casneuf) Markwardt, his son James and his grandson, Ian Mutchler. Bill met his life’s love, Anne Fowler, in Detroit, Michigan, when they were both 14 at Barry’s Drugstore. Anne was a Soda Jerk and Bill worked next door at a grocery store. They danced together often at the Campus and Grandee Ballrooms and graduated together from Cooley High School.

They married in 1948 in Detroit, Michigan and lovingly nurtured seven children: Sherry (Keith) Mutchler, William III (Josie), Nan Theiss, James, Don (Cam), Andrew (Kelly) and Jane (Keith) Griesinger; her 17 grandchildren, Megan, Ian, Katie, Bronwyn, William IV, Maggie, Jim, Jennifer, Anne, Julia, Laura, Donald, Ruth, Alex, William, Andrew and Sarah; and his great grandson Cedric. Bill is further survived by his siblings, Melvin (Betty) Markwardt, Gloria (Bill) Hughes and Gary (Mary Ellen) Markwardt, and his dear friend Diane Mulroy.

Bill was vice president at Prudential Insurance Company and managed the Appleton and Green Bay Districts, earning CLU AND ChFC designations. He was an avid golfer, a member of the choir at St. Bernard Catholic Church, volunteered at St. Joseph’s Food Pantry and Appleton Medical Center. Bill was also active in the ThedaCare Hospice Foundation.

The Funeral Liturgy will be at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2007 at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1617 West Pine Street, Appleton, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of mass. Burial will be in Parkview Memorial Cemetery, Livonia, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Community Hospice Foundation for the William and Anne Markwardt Volunteer Award would be appreciated.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Cherry Meadows, especially to Chris De Decker, for their loving care.
