William E. Doering

William Edward Doering (Bill), loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, age 79, passed away on Thursday, August 2nd 2012. He died from complications related to Parkinson's Disease. William was born on March 23, 1933 in Appleton, Wisconsin to the late Harvey & Gretchen Doering. Bill was untied in marriage to his wife, Patricia Faye Canham on July 15 1961. He graduated from Kaukauna High School and then attended the University Wisconsin-Madison. Bill left the University to serve in the Korean War and when he returned he finished his accounting degree and became a Certified Public Accountant. Bill worked for a local accounting firm in Appleton for several years before joining his father in the family grocery business. He remained in that business for fifty years and during that time was involved in owning five different super markets. Bill joined the Appleton Rotary Club in the late 1960's and went to weekly meetings until just recently. Bill also was on the Board of Directors of the Community Clothes Closet and Midway Outreach Community Association (MOCA), where he spent many hours working on fundraising for a new addition to the Community Close Closet building. He served seven years on the Board of North Pointe Condominium Association.

He is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-one years; Pat; his children: John Doering of Appleton, Amy Kraft and her husband Paul of Boston, and Steve Doering of Appleton; four grandsons: grandsons: Gus, Ray, Henry, and Ned Kraft; two sisters: Sharon (Gene) Fassbender of Appleton and Kathi (Terry) Bulfin of Bellevue, Washington. He also had many loving nieces and nephews: Paul (Caryl) Fassbender, who also joined Bill in the family grocery business, Jeanne (Kevin) Stein, Sarah (Todd) Fellerer, David Atwood, Gina Atwood, Erhin Bulfin, and Kaila Bulfin. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his younger sister: Greta Atwood and a younger brother: Scott Doering.

A gathering of family and friends to honor William will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012, from 10:30 am until 2:00 pm at Michiels' Fox Banquets, 111 East Kimball Street in Appleton. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Staff at Rennes Health Care and especially the staff at Heartwood Homes & Aseracare Hospice who cared for William and allowed him to die with dignity and not in pain.
