I was very sad to hear about Walt's death. I had the privilege of working for and then befriending both Walt and Dona. Walt at work was always fair, well prepared for discussions of any issue, incredibly smart and well-spoken. Formidable at times, he also knew how to deploy his great charm and his warm, ready smile and a quick wink from those blue eyes put one at ease instantly. As a friend, my then-husband, Jim Cowles (who died last week of a glioblastoma), our baby daughter, Emily, and I enjoyed many a weekend on Walt and Dona's impressive boats in Sturgeon Bay. We'd watch fireworks, go out on the Bay, Jim and Walt would tell stories about skippering boats (Jim was also a licensed Captain), play with the adorable ball of energy Burt, and a visit to Walt and Dona's boat or house Always included at least one Painkiller--which Walt could make like no one else! I will miss Walt terribly: In one of our last conversations shortly before His death on January 4th, my Jim and I talked about the fun we had with him. Walt is quite irreplaceable. My heart breaks for you, Dona, and the rest of your family. God Bless - Mary Shawn LaViolette Cowles
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

It is with great sadness that Mary and I received the news of Walt's passing. We considered him a friend and colleague in the medical profession. His integrity, management skills and sound judgement throughout his career, especially as financial officer and administrator at Appleton Medical Center, brought credit and prestige and growth to AMC and its health care mission. I treasure his leadership as a board member of Appleton Cardiology Assoc. He left a legacy of honest and trustworthy service to the entire Appleton community. Our sympathy goes out to Dona and his family. Lowell and Mary Peterson
