Vera P. Tesnow

The Lord saw that she was tired, so He wrapped His arms around her to give her peace. Our angel, Vera Tesnow, went to sleep in the arms of the Lord on Monday morning, February 13, 2012. She was 93. Born Vera Pauline Anna Hemb on August 25, 1918, she was the first of four children born to the late William and Martha (Zimmerman) Hemb in the Town of Meeme, Wisconsin. She graduated from high school in Manistique, Michigan, with the class of 1936. For many years, Vera worked as a cook at the Elbow Room in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, followed by many years as a cook at Park Lawn Nursing Home, also in Manitowoc. After retiring in 1983, she moved to Oneida Heights in Appleton, where she served as council president for a time and held various other positions during her twenty-five years there. She enjoyed crocheting and weaving plastic crafts and for many years made all of the favors for the residents of Oneida Heights for their annual Christmas parties. Her beautiful crocheted afghans will always be a treasured memory by her family. In 2008, Vera moved to Preston Place in Redgranite, where she enjoyed putting puzzles together and playing bingo with her friends.

Vera is survived by two daughters: Judith (Daniel) Vandenhouten of Kewaunee and Sandra (Steven) Bender of Wautoma; two sons: Gerald Tesnow of Appleton and Dennis (Jeanne) Tesnow of Villa Rica, Georgia; fifteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Vera was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Norbert (Barbara) Hemb and William (Jean) Hemb; and a sister: Caroline (Wilbur) Goeke.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at KNOLLWOOD MEMORIAL PARK, Highway 310 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Friends may call at the cemetery chapel on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
