Tom D'Amato

December 23, 1938 — February 20, 2017

On Monday, February 20th, 2017 the world lost an incredible, funny, passionate, loving man. Tom was born 12/23/38 in Cambridge, MA to Alyce Murphy, and was adopted by Paul D'Amato soon after Alyce and Paul married in '44.

Tom grew up in Waukesha and attended Waukesha South High School where he lettered in three sports. Tom joined the Marines in '57 and received a badge for marksmanship. He lived his adult life in Milwaukee and was a general manager for the Kmart Corporation for 36 years. Tom was proud of his involvement in the TV 6 Labor Day Telethon where he volunteered for many years to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Tom married Margie Klotz in 1966 and their daughters, Alyce and Beth, were born in '67 and '70. In the 90's Alyce met Louis Licari and Beth met Connie Phelps and the family of 6 was complete.

Although Tom didn't have any siblings he had friends who were like brothers; Russ Larsen, Earl Peterman, Gary Yahr, cousin Bob Vrakas, Bill Guyette and Dave Watson. And of course his honorary sister, Pat Watson and fellow Trekkie, Keith Schultz.

In retirement Tom enjoyed working for High Rollers, hosting bus trips to casinos, and managing Thunder and Lightning, a couple who performed Neil Diamond and Patsy Cline concerts.

Tom lost Margie in Oct of 2010 and missed her every day since. He struggled with his own health problems over the last 10 years but fought every battle with strength and humor. His love for his family and the support of his friends kept him going.

Tom lit up this world with his sense of humor, his great stories and his skillful joke-telling. He loved making people laugh and did so at every opportunity.

On Monday, Tom passed away surrounded by his family and listening to Neil Diamond. Even in his last days he commented on how lucky he was to be supported and loved by so many wonderful friends and family.

Tom leaves a legacy of integrity, humor, passion, laughter and unconditional love. This legacy lives on in his beloved daughters. Not a day went by that Tom didn't tell his girls how much he and their Mother loved them and were proud of them. They say good-bye to their Dad knowing that they were the luckiest kids on the planet – “no brag – just fact”.
