Steven R. Achterberg

Steve Achterberg died at his home in Appleton on Thursday morning, March 5, 2009 at the age of 49. Steve was born in Appleton on August 28, 1959, son of the late Carl Achterberg and Josephine (Pauly) Achterberg who still resides in Appleton. After high school, Steve worked for the Street Department in Menasha, at CentraCor in New London, but for the past many years had worked as a tow motor driver at Valley Packaging in Appleton. He enjoyed mechanic work of all kinds – there wasn't a car, motorcycle, or truck out there that he couldn't fix.

Steve is survived by his wife: Lynn Achterberg; his mother: Josephine Achterberg; three children: Scott and Nicole Achterberg of Appleton, and Matthew Achterberg of Manawa; five brothers: Glenn Achterberg, Dave Achterberg, Ronny Achterberg, all of Appleton; Mike (Donna) Achterberg of New London, and Ken Achterberg of Kimberly; his father-in-law: Bob Henrickson of Hortonville; three sisters-in-law: Lori Stilen of Shiocton, Sherry Henrickson of Hortonville, and Stacy Henrickson of Hortonville; and two brothers-in-law: Todd (Chrysta) Henrickson and Troy (Lynn) Henrickson, both of Hortonville. There are also many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Carl Achterberg in 1986 and his mother-in-law Judi Henrickson in 1997.

Funeral services for Steve will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Wichmann Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
