Sara J. Smith

December 5, 1961 — January 12, 2021

Sara Jean Smith nee Brinkman, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021, after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Sara has finally made it home. She will feel no more pain, have no more struggles, and no longer have to battle the body that betrayed her. She fought cancer again and again, never asking God, “Why me?” Instead, she faced each time with unwavering wit, a sense of humor, a no ******* attitude and a pot or two of coffee. Sara enjoyed trivia, reading, and time at the lake with family and friends. Sara had a big heart and a steel trap memory. Fly high Sara! Rest now, in the arms of the Lord.

Sara was born December 5, 1961, in Appleton to Eugene and Jacqueline Brinkman. She graduated from Appleton West in 1980. She worked for many years as a Truck Broker and may be the official first Google Maps, frequently able to assist truckers needing to find a location. Sara enjoyed her career until her retirement in 2016 when she began her latest battle with cancer.

She will be sadly missed by her husband of 21 years, Richard Smith; her beloved son Aaron; her stepchildren: Thaddeus (Karin) Smith, Matthew (Alicia) Smith, Melanie (Brian) Lofgren; grandchildren: Harper and Sullivan Smith; Aiden, Caleb, Callen, and Greyson Smith; and Abrahm and Thalia Lofgren. She is further survived by her brother Mark (Jan) Brinkman and sister Sue (Peter) Wickert; nieces: Karen Wickert, Jamie (Brinkman) Ward and Rachel Brinkman; nephews: Andrew Wickert, Joshua Wickert, and Zachery Brinkman; her Godmother Dorothy Smith Griffith; as well as her most loyal friend Georgia.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents: Eugene and Jacqueline Brinkman; grandparents: Walter and Dorothy Brinkman and John and Martha Rislow, and niece Lindsey Brinkman.

A celebration of Sara’s inspiring life will be held later in the year. Anyone wishing to offer condolences to the Smith Family may send greeting to Richard Smith N1460 Wildwood Dr., Greenville, WI 54942.
