Age 75, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton. She was born in Jefferson, IA on January 4, 1935, the daughter of the late Frank and Ruth (Miller) Spring. On September 18, 1954, she married her husband of 55 years, George Hansen in Racine.

Ruth was an administrative assistant for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Southern Wisconsin Center, and then went on to become a customer service representative for Wisconsin Gas, Wautoma. She enjoyed traveling extensively and had the opportunity to visit over 30 countries with George. The two of them also attended many antique shows throughout the years. She had a passion for history and a keen knack for remembering the dates of important events. Family and friends were everything to Ruth. She will be remembered for her genuine kindness and caring toward others.

Ruth is survived by her husband, George; children: Jon Stephen (Connie) Hansen of Wautoma, Paul Christian (Crystal) Hansen of Middleton, and Eric Andrew (Shelly) Hansen of Appleton; grandchildren: Justin Hansen and Taylor Hansen; brother, William Spring; sister, Margaret Spring. She will be dearly missed by her beloved “grandpuppies”; Sammy and Riley, Aubey George, and Jazz and Sophie. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Vearl and Donald; and sisters: Celeste and Leola.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2010 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, 3009 N. Meade St., Appleton, with Pastor James Seim officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Cherry Meadows Hospice for their gentle and compassionate care of Ruth and her family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Ruth's name is being established.
