Age 86, passed away Monday, November 10, 2003 at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King, Wisconsin. She was born on September 28, 1917, daughter of the late August and Mary (Jagadowski) Schwanke. She married Joseph Freund on September 14, 1940. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1987. She was a resident of Kimberly until December 30, 1997. She then became a resident of the Veteran’s Home due to the disease of Alzheimer’s. Rose was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Kimberly. She was employed at the Aid Association for Lutherans in food service department for 20 years before retiring. Rose especially enjoyed fishing, watching the packers, and spending time with family and friends.

Rose is survived by her children: David (Marian) Freund of Glenview, Illinois, Mary (Jack) Vogl of Kimberly, and Jolene (Paul) Nielsen of Borth; Grandchildren: Delon Freund, Denise Cassatt and Jason Vogl; and a sister-in-law, Idelle (Ray) Schwanke of Kimberly. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph and her daughter, Linda Downing of Antioch, California.

The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2003, at HOLY NAME OF JESUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 East Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the liturgy.

We would like to especially thank Dr. Kyle, Judy Steinberg, and all the nurses and staff of Stordock Hall Fifth Floor, Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, for their extraordinary care during her stay there. Further, a special thank you to Chaplain Wayne Schwanke for his prayers during her last hours.

A memorial fund in Rose’s name is being established.
