Ronald J. Young

Ronald J. Young, age 78, passed away Wednesday morning, February 29, 2012 at the Appleton Medical Center. Ron was born in the town of Bovina on December 6, 1933, son of the late Abraham and Esther (Herminath) Young. Ron married the former Berniece Young on July 14, 1954; she survives. Ron enjoyed travel – he had been to the World's Fair, a Super Bowl, Puerto Rico, and Barbados, and especially enjoyed New Orleans and Texas. For many years, he enjoyed the winter months in Hawaii, as well as his yearly fishing trips to Canada and his many hunting trips out west. For nearly fifty years, he worked as truck driver for S.C. Shannon. He retired in 1995. Ron also founded R.B. Pallet Service, Inc. in 1981, was a longtime member of Holy Cross Parish in Kaukauna, and was also an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife: Berniece Young of Kaukauna; eight children: Theresa (Charles) Gilbertson of Kaukauna; Colleen (Tom) Brazee of Appleton; Julie (Roy) Mankovecky of Kaukauna; Laurie (Mark) Rogers of Galesville; Alan Young of Kaukauna; Charlene (Steve) Babbitts of Mosinee; Mary Metko of Greenville and her special friend Jim Keller; and “RonRon” Young of Kaukauna; seventeen grandchildren: Carla (Christopher) Busse, Erin Gilbertson and her fiancé Nathan Schleicher, Charles E. Gilbertson, Sara George, Emily (Kurt) Ulrich, Dr. Michael (Jennifer) Mankovecky, Jason Mankovecky and his special friend Ashley Oldham, Justin (Krystal) Young, Adam (Jessica) Rogers, Lisa Rogers, Ann (Jason) Vander Steen, Jay Young and his special friend Crystal Scherer, Gary Young, Christopher Bormes, AmiLee Bormes and her fiancé Jamie Schumann, Brittany Miller, and Brett Young. There are also eight great-grandchildren: Anthony, Christopher, Colton, Ella, Autumn, Miah, Ava, and Alaina.

Ron also leaves behind 10 brothers and sisters: Sherry (Gene) Freimuth, Carol Johnson, Verlee (Roger) Freimuth, Kathleen (Elmer) Kaiser, Jerry (DeDe) Young, Janet (Evan) Richie, Margie Ort, Elaine (Rob) Robinson, Dan (Terry) Young, and Darwin Young; three sisters-in-law: Rita Young, Millie Stingle, and Marci (Jim) Freimuth; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and by many dear friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandson Caleb Busse, a son-in-law Duane George, a brother Delton Young, brothers-in-law Harry Johnson, Dave Ort, Dennis Stingle, and Jim (Carol) Young; a sister-in-law Rosie (Lloyd) Glatz, and Berniece's parents Theodore and Anna Marie (Peeters) Young.

The funeral liturgy for Ron will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and again at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. There will be a prayer service at 8:00 PM Friday to conclude the visitation.

The family would like to extend their thanks to everyone at the Appleton Medical Center, especially Gary, Roger, Larry, and Randy. You were so kind to all of us – we will never forget your care and compassion.
