Roland A. Bartz

Suring, Wisconsin, passed away on July 25, 2008, at his residence in The Heritage in Appleton, Wisconsin, at the age of 96. Born on March 14, 1912 to Paul and Emma Bartz, he lived and worked in Wisconsin all his life. He is survived by four of his children and their spouses — Emmy Simmons (Roger); Betsy Wiener (Howard); Clare Peitsch (Peter); and Jon Bartz (Terri) – as well as his six grandchildren, a brother, Robert K. Bartz, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his daughters Barbara and Margot, his brothers Harold and Bill, and sisters Elda and Rufina.

Roland lived a long and full life, enjoying work and family, never happier than when he could be doing things for others. Fishing in Canada with his brothers and friends and visiting his children in their homes around the world expanded his horizons and brought him enormous pleasure. Building his own house on a hill in Hayes, Wisconsin, in 1955-56 provided him and his family the opportunity to appreciate sunrises and sunsets for more than fifty years. The house is now owned by his daughter Betsy and the gardening tradition he established continues.

Family, church and community were at the core of his existence. All are invited to a memorial service at St. John Lutheran Church in Hayes on Sunday, July 27, at 4:00 p.m. Visitation begins at 3:00 p.m. Donations to the fund for the repair of the church pipe organ are welcomed in lieu of flowers.
