Age 72, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette. Rodney was born on January 26, 1930, in Appleton to the late William F. and Viola (Pohle) Retza. He married Arlene Henschel on June 23, 1967, in Waukegan, Illinois. Rodney was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean War (1948-1952) and was active in the Adult Blind and Deaf Program at the Wisconsin Lions Camp. Rodney was a past treasurer of Faith Lutheran Church, Rosholt; past president of the Rosholt Lions Club; was a member of several American Legion Posts; a member of the Blinded Veterans Association; and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Arlene ; his sons, Scott (Linda) Retza, Appleton, and William (Julie) Retza, Crivitz; his grandchildren, Alyssa, Jamie and Ryan Retza, Appleton; and Billy and Michael Retza, Crivitz; his sisters, Ellie Zietz, Hurst, Texas; Winnie (John) Derber, Boulder, Colorado; and Janet (Joe) Grimm, Mt. Prospect, Illinois; his brother Eugene (Ginnie) Retza, Fair Oaks, California; his sister-in-law, Lorraine Retza, Ashwaubenon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth and his sister, Irene Houfek.

Funeral services will be held at NOON on Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, Appleton, with Rev. Martin Koeller officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again prior to the services on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name to benefit the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and the Blinded Veterans Association.
