Rodney J. Weber

June 11, 1949 — October 8, 2014

Rod Weber (fondly referred to by many as “Butch”) passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Rod was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan, on June 11, 1949, son of the late Edward and Betty (LaLonde) Weber. He graduated from high school in Florence, Wisconsin, and earned his marketing degree from UW-Whitewater in 1971, and his teaching degree in 1974. Upon graduation, Rod began teaching at Menasha High School while simultaneously earning his Masters of Education degree from UW-Whitewater. Rod proudly taught at Menasha High School for 32 years, and retired in 2006. He embraced retirement and lived every moment to its fullest, enjoying his winters on the beach near Sarasota, Florida, and all other seasons in Wisconsin with family and friends. He spread smiles and good times wherever he went, always filled with joy and happy to share his love with friends and strangers alike.

Rod had a heart of gold, and sought out opportunities to show love to others whenever possible. He pursued his artistic talents while in Florida, taking up pastels. He was generous with his breathtaking art, gifting many treasured works to relatives and friends. Rod had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, spending summers in his immaculate yard full of gorgeous flowers. He loved to travel and “soak it all in,” visiting Germany and Italy. He enjoyed golfing, hosting Packer parties, going to movies, and relaxing on his patio as the sun set. It goes without saying, but he had a genuine appreciation for food and a particularly sweet tooth. Rod never failed to appreciate the beauty in life. His door was open to everyone, and his generosity touched all who surrounded him. While his career and hobbies were great successes, he considered his greatest achievements his friends and family. They meant the world to him, and he never hesitated to make it known. Rod's love touched the lives of so many, and he will live on in their hearts forever.

Rod is survived by his two beloved children: Kaitlyn (Erik Vander Heiden) Weber and Kraig Weber; his great friend and former wife: Sue Weber; brother Michael (Marcia) Weber; two sisters: Jeanine (Brian) Brouillette and Karen (Dennis) Podnar; and his “favorite” nieces and nephews: John Weber, Sara (Dan) Davis, Michael (Annie) Ghere, Brianne Brouillette, Matthew Brouillette, Jessica (Robert) Nejedlo, and Danielle Podnar. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and several cousins. Rod was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral liturgy for Rod will be held this Wednesday, October 15, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette in Appleton. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Second Harvest Food Bank or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

“Sometimes I feel like a fish out of water. If you find me during that time, please return me to the beach”.

Rod, while we did not have a forever marriage, we created one heck of a wonderful forever family! You will always hold a special place in my heart, Sue.

Dad, thank you for giving me the world, for teaching me to always follow my heart, for showing me that my dreams can always be my reality. The world is without a doubt better off for having you in it, and your loss will ripple through my heart forever and ever. Love you always. Your Pumpkin, Sweetie, and Kait Patait forever.
