Richard Vanden Boogaard

February 20, 1949 — October 24, 2013

Dick Vanden Boogaard, age 64, of Kimberly, entered into eternal life on Thursday, October 24, 2013. He was born February 20, 1949, to Mathias and Marian (Melendy) Vanden Boogaard. Dick spent many years working for the Village of Kimberly and ended his career as the Street Commissioner upon his retirement in 2009. Later, he was employed at Avis where he made many new friends. Dick was proud to be from Kimberly and spent his entire life residing there. While he was proud of the work he did, he was most proud of his family and friends. Dick enjoyed spending time watching his son coach college basketball, taking his daughters out to lunch and going on “Sunday drives” with his wife. When with his wife and children, Dick glowed. But he loved nothing better than being a grandpa. And what an amazing grandpa he was! Whether it was out playing ball or reading books, Dick took pride in being called “Grandpa.”
Dick was also a man who enjoyed giving of his time to not only his community but also to the Walk 4 Autism. Throughout his years, Dick was an active member of the Holy Name Athletic Association as well as the Boy Scouts of America where he served as a scout master. Dick had many annual traditions that included attending the WIAA Boys State Basketball Tournament, going on fishing trips with friends, attending the Indianapolis 500 and celebrating Christmas Eve with a quick stop to a local tavern to enjoy generations of family members and a shot of blackberry brandy.

On June 27 of 1970 Dick married Mary Lou Van Asten and together they raised four children. Mary Lou and Dick spent 43 years of marriage together.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Van Asten) Vanden Boogaard, their four children; Tracy (Jim) Schommer, Kimberly; Brad (Julee) Vanden Boogaard, Clarendon, TX; Polly Vanden Boogaard, Kaukauna and Laura (Alex) Smith, Combined Locks. He is also survived by three grandsons, Reece and Phin Schommer and Jax Vanden Boogaard (due in December). In addition, Dick is survived by four siblings; John (Pat) Vanden Boogaard, DePere, Kathy Hurst, Appleton; Kris Gerhardt, Appleton and Dave (Kathy) Vanden Boogaard, Little Chute. Dick is also survived by his wife's sister and brother-in-law, Gail (Dave) Vanderloop, Kaukauna as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Marian Vanden Boogaard, his father / mother -in-law, Clayton and Lorraine Van Asten and two brothers-in-law, Dick Hurst and Bill Gerhardt.
