Richard J. Hrdlick

Richard Hrdlick, age 81, passed away at the Appleton Medical Center on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Richard was born in Milwaukee on September 8, 1927, 20son of the late Joseph and Elsie (Stetter) Hrdlick. Richard was a graduate of Milwaukee's Marquette High School and also attended Layton Art School in Milwaukee where he studied graphic design. He served in the United States Army near the end of World War II, and in January of 1958 married the former Dorothy Baumann in Madison; she survives. He worked as a graphic artist in both the Milwaukee and Madison areas, but finished his career here in Appleton, working at the Institute of Paper Chemistry. He retired in the late 1980's. He enjoyed painting architectural landscapes, caring for his grandsons when they were young, and landscaping his yard.

Richard is survived by his wife: Dorothy Hrdlick; two children: Mark Hrdlick and Karen Hrdlick, all of Appleton; two grandsons: Justin and Jared Hrdlick; a sister: Bernice (Tom) Hartnett of Brookfield; and a sister-in-law: Kathleen (Ron) Auberg of Perkinstown. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lee (Margaret) Hrdlick, and an infant granddaughter Sarah.

The funeral liturgy will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 E. Lourdes Avenue in Appleton with Fr. Donald Zuleger officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the hour of the services at 11:30 AM.
