Age 80, died of esophageal cancer, Sunday morning, February 1, 2004, at his home. He was born April 3, 1923, to the late George and Ella (Asher) Benoit, in North Hampton, Massachusetts. Richard served in New Guinea for three years with the U. S. Army during WW II and had been employed as a plant manager, for Massachusetts Electric Company for 30 years. He was involved with campaigns and elections, loved animals and was devoted to his dogs, he enjoyed travel, especially to Las Vegas, and he enjoyed playing cards and target shooting. Richard was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Harvey Pierre VFW Post #2778 of Appleton. Survivors include his wife Vivian M. (Ferguson) Benoit, to whom he had been married for 9 years; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas Benoit, Chicopee, MA; Gary and Laurie Benoit, Menasha; 13 grandchildren, Margaret, Joseph, Mary, Ann, Catherine, Susan, Cecelia, Lucy, Paul, Madeleine, Germaine, Siobhan and Bridget; 7 great grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Vivian D. (Richard) Wieseckel and their children, Derek, Devin, Adam, Victoria and Drew. He is further survived by special friends, John Ferguson (also his brother-in-law) and Rolande Legay, both of Santa Barbara, CA; Fr. John O’Flaherty, Chicago; and Winnie Wieseckel, Kimberly. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Benoit, two brothers and a sister. The funeral liturgy for Richard will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 5, 2004, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, With Father Michael K. O’Rourke officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call, at the church from 9:00 am, Thursday, until the time of the mass.
