Rev. R.A. Pegram

June 17, 1931 — August 26, 2012

R.A. Pegram, age 81, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Beacon Place. R.A. was born on June 17, 1931, in Greensboro, to Hersey and Flossie (Self) Pegram. R.A. was a graduate of Greensboro High School; he then attended both the Pilgrim Bible College in Kernersville, as well as Elon College, graduating with a degree in Bible. When he entered into ministry in the Methodist Church, he went back to school at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Chicago, later adding a degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin—Platteville. After retirement, he also did doctoral studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California —studying under C. Peter Wagner. He married the former Frances Welborn on June 17, 1954. They had one son, Byron, while still living in Greensboro, then after moving to Wisconsin to plant churches in 1957, they were blessed with four more children — two boys and two girls. R.A. pastored in the Wisconsin Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for about 40 years, then retired to Florida in 1995. Having lost his wife, Frances, to cancer in 1997, God then blessed R.A. with a second chance at love with the former Melba Warren in 1998; they have enjoyed each other's company for the past fourteen years. In these past years, R.A. continued the lifelong work God had called him to in mentoring younger pastors, counseling, and a ministry of prayer.

R.A. was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Notra Heaps and Laura Elmore Pegram, as well as his first wife: Frances (Welborn) Pegram.

R.A. is survived by his wife: Melba; his children: Byron (Jill) Pegram, Rom (Jane) Pegram, Joy (Ed Kern) Pegram, Gay (Robert) Phillip, Stan (Sarah) Pegram; Mark Warren; and Cliff (Dana) Warren; a sister: Barbara; fifteen grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
