Milton Gordon Petzold entered into eternal life on June 30, 2002, after a lengthy battle with cancer, congestive heart failure and kidney failure. He was born on January 22, 1920, in Wausau, Wisconsin, the son of William and Minnie Petzold. Milton was a graduate of Mission House College (now Lakeland College) and Mission House Seminary (now United Theological Seminary). While he was in college and seminary he sang with the men’s chorus, The Troubadours, and was a member of Zeta Chi fraternity. Rev. Petzold was ordained on February 16, 1947, and served his Lord faithfully for more than 52 years. He served churches in Baltic, Ohio; Plymouth, Indiana; Antigo, Monroe, Medford/Dorchester, and Black Creek, Wisconsin. He retired from full time ministry in 1986, but from 1987 until 1999, he served as Visitation Pastor of St. John United Church of Christ, Appleton. In 1996 he was elected Pastor Emeritus of St. John United Church of Christ in Black Creek.

Milton was active at the Association and Conference levels of the United Church of Christ, holding various offices at both levels throughout the years.

Milton is survived by his wife, Ardelle, to whom he was married in 1945; his sons, Paul (Ellie) Albuquerque, New Mexico; Dennis, Frewsburg, New York; Keith, Appleton; Kent, Appleton; a grandson, Adam, Frewsburg, New York; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Bob Stoll, Three Lakes, Wisconsin; two sisters-in-law; Gladys Petzold, Wausau; and Esther Petzold, Verona; plus a number of nephews and nieces and their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Raymond, Alfred, William and James; a sister and brother-in-law, Arletta and Gordon Hackbarth; two sisters-in-law, Marion Petzold and Lynn Petzold.

A memorial service will be held in honor of the life of Milton Petzold at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at ST. JOHN UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 1130 West Marquette Street, Appleton, with Rev. Dr. Tom Fritz officiating. Cremation was Milton’s choice with burial of the ashes in St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery. A time of fellowship with the family will be held after the memorial service and a lunch will be served. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John United Church of Christ Building Fund or LEAVEN. Special thanks to the nephrologists and staff at BMA Dialysis Center for all their care and kindness, also to Dr. Guenther and the staff at AMC Cancer Center.
