I had the pleasure of meeting Phil when I worked at the Trout Museum of Art. It was always a delight talking with him when he'd come in to the museum. He was a very talented watercolor artist and I always loved seeing his work. We'd chat about his work and he knew my interest in the medium since I was starting doing watercolor painting again. One memory I have is he invited me over to the house to see his watercolor sketches. It was impressive the amount of watercolor sketches he had. His delightful wife Faith and I made the comment that he should sell these sketches. Phil was such a humble man and commented they are just sketches for future paintings. It was wonderful that one year Phil had a solo exhibition at the Trout Museum of Art with his work on display. Included in the exhibit were some of his watercolor sketches and sketch books. I was lucky enough to have purchased one of his watercolor paintings of sunflowers in Door County that is proudly displayed in my home. Phil was always a regular at Art at the Park and I would always make sure to stop by and visit him and Faith. They both were such a delight to chat with. They will be greatly missed by the community.

I had one of Phil's watercolors in my home long before I met him at Rotary. We had so many pleasant and interesting conversations. I'll miss him greatly. What a great guy!
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

Phil was an awesome guy and artist. I have had the pleasure of being a fellow Rotarian with Phil for many years. Phil knew my Dad, Bob Hillmer, from the artist community and he often talked about that. Phil and Dad had such similar painting methods. He is leaving behind a great art legacy God bless Phil and his a family.

I’m so sorry to read this news. Phil was an all around wonderful guy! The twinkle in his eye will be missed. I am fortunate to have known him as a member of our All Saints Episcopal Church Family. His watercolors will always put a smile on my face. May God bless Phil and his entire family.

My heart goes out to Faith and the family. Phil was a giving, prolific painter and arts advocate, but practiced with the humility of someone who is so comfortable in his skill, he could readily share it with others. His efforts were behind so many artistic efforts we currently enjoy and likely don’t know their grassroots beginnings. He will be missed as a creative force, but through those efforts, his impact will live on.
