Mark Jahnke (son) left a message on December 28, 2020:
Like Abraham my Dad was chosen "so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just." (Genesis 18:19). As Joshua said "as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24:15). Dad faithfully served the Lord and the church and he prayed for his family that they might know the Lord. As Paul spoke in I Thessalonians 2:11 he "treated each of you as a father treats his own children encouraging you, comforting you, and urging you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into His own kingdom and glory." Dad was a wise and godly man. He knew that "the fear of the Lord is the beinning of knowlege" (Proverbs 1:7). He had "a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight" (I Peter 3:4). He strived to "live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God" (Colossians 1:10). Dad can now say "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." Though this is a painful time for the family we believe as I Thessalonians 4:13-18 says "we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words." It is my desire to honor my Dad as Ephesians 6:1 says, who labored amoung my family. I want to esteem him very highly in love for his works sake (see I Thessalonians 5:12-13). As Proverbs 17:6 says "Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children." I am proud of my Dad and love him very much. I will miss him.
