Patrick G. Schmidt

June 13, 1956 — May 28, 2016

Patrick G Schmidt, age 59, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, May 28th, 2016. Pat was a fantastic man, husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who truly enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting, laughing, jokes, watching the Packers, his beloved dog Peanut, and spending time with his good friend, Dennis Romagnoli. Pat had an absolutely contagious smile and laugh that could truly light up a room, and lift the spirits of anyone around him. Pat always greeted others with a gracious handshake and when he caught your eye he would give a wonderful wink that just made you smile. To know him was to love him, he had the biggest heart! Pat was the kindest and gentlest soul, who knew the right words to say and when to crack a great joke. He is fondly remembered for his sense of humor and perfect timing, he was the sort of person who would call every day to check on his friends and family and b.s. with them. Pat also had an extremely strong commitment to core values such as hard work, respect, honesty, integrity, and treating people the way that he would want to be treated. In short, Pat strongly believed in doing what was right. . . a quality that lives on strongly in his children and grandchildren, who looked up to him as nothing short of a hero and a role model. Pat also worked more than 35 years at Great Northern Corporation, where he took great pride in his job, and truly enjoyed the company of his friends and co-workers during his time there.

Pat is survived by his wife and best friend, Lynn, his children; Heide (David) Welk and Craig (Theresa) and grandchildren; Evan, Landon, Mason, Isabella and Anderson, his mother; Agnes Smarzinski, his brothers; Dennis (Barb), Jeff (Donna), and his sister; Barb (Larry) Mauthe, brother-in-law; Jeff (Barb) Slomski. sisters-in-laws; Donna (Bruce) Danielson and Sharon (Wade) Lindholm, nephews; Peter (Kara) and Steven (Stephanie) Schmidt, Mike and John (Katie) Mauthe, Nathan (Camille) Danielson, Josh (Amy) and Casey (Stephanie) Schmidt, nieces; Christy (Bob) Andrews and Sarah (Mike) Miller, and first grandchild; Oliver, numerous aunts and uncles, including Pex and Mary Ritter and Tony and Bennie Slomski, cousins and many friends. Pat was preceded in death by his father; Leander Schmidt, his step-father; Joseph Smarzinski, his parents-in-law; Louis and Dorothy Slomski Jr, numerous aunts and uncles and his beloved dog, Peanut.

A celebration of Pat's life will be held on Monday, June 13th from 1:00pm until the time necessary for all family and friends to visit and pay their last respects. This celebration will take place at the Whiting Boathouse, 98 Fifth St., in Neenah, WI.

We would like to express a special thanks to Jeff and Donna Schmidt, whose constant support and laughter has been truly instrumental in helping Pat's family through this difficult time; to Dr. Dave Schiedermayer of the ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center, whose genuine compassion and comforting manner throughout Pat's treatment meant the world to both Pat and his family; and to Chris Cody of Wichmann-Fargo Funeral Homes for his genuine and compassionate way of relating to Pat's family while assisting in the arrangements of his final wishes. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We will be forever grateful.
