Age 78, was peacefully called home on February 27, 2003, in Appleton, following a short illness. Patricia was born on March 21, 1925, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, to the late Joseph and Marie (Hantschel) Smith. She graduated from Sacred Heart Parochial School, Appleton Senior High School and Marquette University. After graduating from Marquette, Patricia moved to Troy, Michigan and taught journalism at Madison Heights (MI) High School for 39 years. Many of her stories were printed in magazines and the Detroit Free Press. Patricia spent her summers at her cottage at Lake Winnebago (WI) and enjoyed reading, writing, the culinary arts, theater and swimming. Survivors include her brother, James H. (Rosemary) Smith of Massachusetts; her nephews Kevin, Gerard, Christopher and Randolph Smith of Massachusetts and Timothy Schmidt of Texas, Gregory Smith of Connecticut; her niece Roseann Lobach and family of Tennessee; a cousin David, Arizona; her relatives in Oshkosh and Glendale, Wisconsin; and many cherished friends. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2003, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, Appleton, with Deacon Pete Reinl officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials be directed to UNICEF.
