Oscar R. Michaelsen

November 1, 1911 — March 28, 2004

Age 92, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. Mike was born in Milwaukee on November 1, 1911, son of the late Otto and Meta (Bodenstadt) Michaelsen. On August 24, 1940, he married the former Alma Wenzel in Menasha; she preceded him in death in 1997. Following his marriage, he entered the United States Navy, and proudly served aboard the flagship of the Atlantic fleet, the USS Vixen. After his discharge, he returned to the area where he worked delivering nitroglycerine for a local chemical company. Later, he operated his own service station on Gillingham Road in Neenah and drove truck for DX Oil. In 1976 he retired from Roth Oil. Mike was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed spending time camping with Alma in their trailer near Weyauwega. He was a longtime and active member of Bethel Ev. Lutheran Church in Menasha where he served on various committees over the years.

He is survived by his daughter: EyVonne (Robby) Robinson of Neenah; his special granddaughter-in-law: Laurie (Rick) Schinke of Sherwood; three step-grandchildren: Debbie (Ed) Fischer of Kaukauna, Richard (Leslie) Robinson of Ohio, and David (Debbie) Robinson of Appleton; nine step-grandchildren; his former granddaughter-in-law Lori Robinson of Appleton; two sisters: June Foster of Sussex and Anita Plante of Butler, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alma, a grandson Dean DeWildt, a sister Carol Foster, and by brothers Harvey Hinkel and Milton Hinkel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at BETHEL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 829 Appleton Road in Menasha with Rev. Donald Ninmer and Rev. David Wenzel officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 – 7 PM and again Thursday at the church from 10 AM until the hour of the services.

Following the services, military memorial rites will be provided by the members of the William Verhagen American Legion Post #60 of Kimberly.
