Age 85, died Saturday afternoon, December 21, 2002. He was born June 15, 1917, to the late Herman and Ella (Langacker) Haefer and had been an Appleton resident since 1950. Orville served with the U. S. Navy Seabees in the Philippine Islands during WW II. He had been employed by the United States Postal Service for 31 years, retiring in 1980. Orville enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church since 1969, the Oney Johnston-Edward Blessman American Legion Post #38, the Harvey Pierre VFW Post #2778 and NARFE. Survivors include his wife, Norma Mae (Schmidt) Haefer, to whom he had been married for 63 years; a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Ronald A. and Susan Haefer, Wilson, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Donald Benziger, Greenfield, IN; five grandchildren, Mike (Tammy) Haefer, Rachel (Chris) Bradich, Natalie Haefer, Jason Benziger and Erin Benziger; several great grandchildren; and his little dog Maggie. He was preceded in death by his sister, Golda Pearson. Funeral Services for Orville will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 26, 2002, at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2330 West Calumet Street, with Reverend Roger McQuistion officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am, Thursday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
