Orlin A. Kahler

April 25, 1935 — July 27, 2016

Orlin Kahler, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016. He was born on April 25, 1935 in the town of Center, son of the late Alvin and Lena (Moeller) Kahler. Orlie graduated from Shiocton High School in 1953 and became a Certified Machinist. He worked at American National Can until his retirement at age 61. Orlie was a proud veteran and served in the 32nd Division Army National Guard from 1952 until 1963 as Sergeant First Class.

Orlie loved to fish, hunt, and go bowling. His biggest accomplishments included a 30-inch walleye, an 11-point buck, and he rolled a 298 game! He was a member of the military honor guard and helped to provide honors at funerals as well as many other many military events. He also enjoyed gardening, riding his bicycle, playing cards, building ice fishing shanties, and building sturgeon spears which he sold. Orlie was also a longtime and faithful member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Neenah. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, a great dad, and a fun grandpa.

Orlie married Carol Jean Popp, and the good Lord blessed them with fifty-eight years together and three daughters. Orlie is survived by two daughters: Amie (Dan) Klemp-Saar of Mukwonago and Julie (Marc) Dimino of Madison. His grandchildren are Christine (Brian) Plamann of Elkhart Lake; Katie (Kyle) Zeamer of Appleton; and Steven, Christopher, and Timothy Dimino, all of Madison; and Rachel and Hannah Klemp of Mukwonago. Orlie also has two sisters: Violet (Delmar) Sawall and Ione (Vincent) Berg of Appleton; and a brother: Kenneth (Rose) Kahler.

Orlie was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Lynn Geiger, a grandson Peter Dimino, a son-in-law Douglas Klemp, brothers Floyd Kahler and Donald Kahler, and a sister Carol Kahler.

The Christian Funeral Service for Orlie will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at TRINTIY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 407 Oak Street in Neenah, with Rev. Tony McKenzie officiating. Full military honors will follow the worship service. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established at Trinity Lutheran Church. For more information or to share a memory of Orlie, please visit www.wichmannfargo.com.

On July 15, Orlie was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. We are grateful to Dr. Conkright of Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, Dr. Swanson, and the nursing staff at 5-South at Theda Care – Neenah who helped make Dad's final days more peaceful.

Orlie found comfort believing in Jesus as his Savior, and that death is only the passage to eternal life in heaven.
