Norma A. Czarnik

August 10, 1938 — October 18, 2017

Heaven hit the jackpot when Norma A. Czarnik, age 79, of Darboy, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Cherry Meadows, Appleton. Norma was born on August 10, 1938, in Chicago to the late John Edward Wold and Aase Ynvarda Marie “Audrey” Pedersen Wold Mathisen. She married her high school sweetheart, Anthony “Tony” Czarnik on November 3, 1956, in Chicago. Tony welcomed her into heaven with a kiss, a hug, and a nice “butz butz.”

Norma was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, a longtime joyful singer in Chaminade Chorus, and a beloved friend in her Birthday Clubs (both rich and poor!). She enjoyed her Norwegian heritage as a charter member of Sons of Norway. She worked tirelessly to pack up dressers & sleeping bags to bring her 10 children and other family members to Imago Dei Family Camp for nearly 20 years.

After raising 10 children Norma went to school to become a Counselor. She loved and was loved by the NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) Teens and ThedaCare Behavioral Health staff who became her extended family. While she was in hospice we had the gift of hearing from numerous young adults who shared how Norma literally saved their lives.
Norma loved the ‘thrill of the hunt’ for a bargain and the ‘joy of the gift’ of giving gifts to others. Her delight in eating broasted chicken, potatoes, & gravy was enhanced by sharing them with her beloved children, family, and friends.
Her generous heart, welcoming spirit, sense of humor, inclusion, and understanding way were born from her love of Christ.

Survivors include her loving sister-in-law (who was loved like a sister) Roberta (Kevin) Sliwinski, her beloved cousin Susan, 10 children including Anthony (Rebecca), Cynthia (Jacob), Tamarack (Patricia), Christopher (Jennifer), Joseph (Lucy), Michael (Brenda), James (Katherine), Timothy (Jessica), Christine, and Rebecca (Daniel), her 26 amazing grandchildren Kelly, Emily, Anna, Sarah, Jacob, Andrea (Platt), Scott (Jessica), Benjamin, Joseph (Heather), Samantha (Ryan), Mandy, Justis, Liberty, Honor, Hero, Alexandra, Madeline, Natalie, Isabella, Alicia, Tyler, Megan, Ella, Corrina, John Daniel, and Abigail, and her precious great-grandchildren Elissa, Julian, Lorelei, Parker, Eleanor, Lindsay, Kendall, Lola, KJ, and Kellan. She was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her newest great-grandchild ‘Poopy Purple!’ She is further survived by her beloved Sliwinski & Wold nieces, nephews, other relatives, countless long-time friends and people who wished they were her children.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2330 East Calumet Street, Appleton, with Rev. Roger McQuistion and Rev.
