Age 80, passed away on Wednesday June 6, 2007 with his family by his side. Nic was born on December 6, 1926 in Freedom, son of the late Joseph and Verna (Van Rixel) Guerts. On November 10, 1949 he married Ruth DeBruin, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2006. Nic was on the Freedom town board for many years, and was a fireman with the Freedom Fire Department and Crooked Lake Fire Department. He was an avid blood donor, and enjoyed woodworking, crafts, and fishing. Nic is survived by his children, daughter Sue Belthuis, Glendale, AZ., and her chidren, Brian (Shauna) Pennings, Larry Pennings; Dan (Barb) Geurts, Freedom, and their children Adam (Teri) Geurts, Candie (Bill) Thomas, Emmy Geurts, Bill (Nicki) Geurts, Kristy (Miguel) Alvarado; daughter, Kathy (Don) Stoffel, Kaukauna and their sons, Paul and Craig Stoffel; son, Tom (Anolee) Geurts, Colorado; daughter, Bev (Dale) Oudenhoven, Freedom and their children, Eric and Anna Oudenhoven; son John (Mary) Geurts, Freedom, and their daughters, Nicole and Ashley Geurts; son, Randy (Jana) Geurts, Wrightstown, and their children, Alyssa, Mara, Evan Geurts, as well as 13 great grandchildren. Nic is further survived by 2 sisters, Pat (Gerald) Romensko, Appleton; Betty (Paul) Wilke, Appleton; Ruth’s family; Carl (Grace) DeBruin, Cal DeBruin, Betty (Rich) Van Wychen, Mary Alice (Ralph) Meulemans, Clifford Weyers, Gloria DeBruin, all of Kaukauna. Nic is preceded in death by an infant son Nicholas, son in law, Roger Belthuis, a sister Del (Ray) Evers, Ruth’s family; Ray (Honey) DeBruin, Mildred (Jerry) Smith, Mae DeBruin, Mary Lou Weyers, Al (Martha) DeBruin, Fritz DeBruin, Joan DeBruin, Parents in law Albert (Susan) DeBruin.

Funeral Services for Nic will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday June 9, 2007 at the Fargo Funeral Home, 400 West Wisconsin Ave, Kaukauna with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
