Mildred M. Engerson

Age 104, died at St. Paul Home on Sunday, May 1, 2011. She was born in Dale, Wisconsin on April 4, 1907. Mildred attended school and graduated from eighth grade in Dale, from Kaukauna High School, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. She taught in elementary schools in both Calumet and Outagamie Counties for 25 years. Mildred was a member of the National Retired Teachers and Wisconsin State Teacher's organizations and helped to organize the first Nicolet Elementary school's Parent and Teachers Association in Kaukauna where she served two years as their first president. She also helped to organize Harrison Consolidated School in Sherwood, serving as their principal for four years. Her last eight years were spent teaching first grade at Kimberly Elementary School.

Mildred was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Kaukauna for over sixty years and served for a time as superintendent of their Sunday School. She was also a member of their Senior Choir. Her winters were spent in Florida and her summers at Boot Lake in Townsend, Wisconsin.

Mildred is survived by one daughter: Sharon F. Radke of Appleton; six grandchildren: Brent W. Radke of Neenah; Paul J. (Elizabeth) Radke of Cincinnati; and John L. Engerson, William E. (Deb) Engerson, Cindy L. (John) Thomson, and Kristin A. (David) Wilz, all of Sturgeon Bay; ten great grandchildren: Heather Radke, Sarah Radke, Eric Radke, Hannah Wilz, Rob Engerson, Tom Engerson, John Engerson, Haley Engerson, Crystal Engerson, and Eric Engerson; and two great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband: Harold (former Kaukauna Chief of Police) on May 17, 1977; a son: Harold J. Engerson on October 7, 1992; a son-in-law: William P. Radke on June 14 1998; her parents: Levi and Agnes Getlinger; two sisters: Violet Huebner of Stratford and Hattie Eckstein of Larson; two brothers: Lester Getlinger of New London and Donald Getlinger of Appleton.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at IMMANUEL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 510 Sullivan Avenue, Kaukauna with the Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday at the church from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. A memorial fund has been established for Immanuel United Church of Christ and for St. Paul Elder Services.

A very special thanks to Sister Dorothy, Molly, the nurses, aides, and many employees at St. Paul Home, and to Jim Fett, who were all so loving, attentive and kind to Mildred. Also Millie Kolb (the cookie and postcard lady); friends: Carol Hillman and Germaine Timm, and her grandchildren: Brent, Kris and Hannah, who were constant visitors.
