Michael R. Judd

Michael Richard Judd, age 69, of Sherwood, passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 4th. He was born on February 27, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late William and Frances (Allen) Judd. Michael was a lifelong learner; graduating in 1965 from Grover Cleveland High School in Granada Hills, California. Michael earned the rank of Eagle Scout during his Boy Scout years. Shortly after earning his undergraduate degree from San Diego State University, Michael joined the Peace Corps program and served in Colombia, South America. He then earned his master's degree from San Diego State University, and continued on to receive his doctorate in physical education from the University of Southern California. Michael met Beth Boardman while teaching at Southern Illinois University-Niigata, Japan, and they were married in Tokyo on October 20, 1995.

Michael's love for outdoor recreational activities and sports spanned his entire life, including his career. During his time as a California State lifeguard, Michael enjoyed training junior lifeguards in Santa Barbara, CA. Michael held several positions as college professor and swim/water polo coach at a variety of universities. The highlight of his aquatic career was managing the University of Southern California Aquatic Center during the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games. Michael also enjoyed golfing, tennis, gardening and bargain shopping at local garage sales. Above his love for learning and sports, came the love he had for his children: Mackenzie and Connor. Michael cherished the time he spent with Mackenzie and Connor, and truly enjoyed watching them play sports. He was immensely proud of them.

Michael will be remembered by his children: Mackenzie and Connor Judd, as well as their mother Beth Boardman, all of Sherwood. He is further survived by his brother Patrick Judd and wife Mary, San Diego, CA, brother Craig Judd, Santa Barbara, CA; nephew Willie Judd and wife Kate, and niece Katie Judd, all of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents: William and Frances Judd.

The Judd family wishes for friends to celebrate Michael's life with kind memories. Michael will be returning to California to rest after a celebration of life with immediate family.
