Merlin "Merl" School

January 19, 1930 — October 27, 2014

Merlin Martin School, age 84 of Freedom, WI went home to our Lord on Monday October 27, 2014. Born January 19th, 1930 to the late John and Marie (Gerrits) School. On October 4th, 1950 he married June Vandenberg of De Pere at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown, daughter of the late Nicholas and Gertrude (Vande Hey) Vandenberg. Merl served in the US army in Korea. He retired from Roundy's in Little Chute in 1985. He was a member of the VFW #7692 of Freedom, The American Legion #258 of Little Chute, Member of the Knights of Columbus #8061 Council of Freedom having served as Deputy Grand Knight. Merl enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and spending time with his family. He loved sports especially the Packers and Brewers. He was an usher and devoted member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom. He truly loved his family and his dogs Ollie, Gizmo and Bo.

Survivors include his wife June of 64 years, son Ken School of Madison, daughters Lynn School (special friend Nic Lehnertz) De Pere, Lisa Bolwerk (special friend Russ Bolwerk) Freedom. grandchildren Dana Greely, Cincinnati; Matt Greely (special friend Amie Baldwin) Appleton; Ryan (Tara) Bolwerk and great granddaughter Nora, Appleton; Nicole Bolwerk (special friend Dan Polans) Milwaukee; Michael & Liz Bolwerk and great grandsons Marcus & Lucas, Appleton. sister Dorothy Goffard of Greenville; sisters-in-law Isabelle Vosters, Freedom; and Joan Schultz, Shakopee, MN brother-in-law James Hoffman as well as many other relatives and friends..

Merl is preceded in death by his parents John and Marie School, brother Jackie, sister Rosie Verbeten, brothers-in-law Ervin Goffard, Emery Mollen, Douglas Vandenberg, Nick Huisman, Bill Schultz, Ted Van Dera, Roy Pleshek, Gil Vosters. Sisters-in-law Yvonne Hoffman, Jean Van Dera, Pearl Pleshek, Zeta Huisman, Carol Vandenberg, Margie Vandenberg. Junes parents Nick and Gertrude Vandenberg.

Visitation for Merl will be on Wednesday October 29, 2014 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 12:00 pm at the church with Rev. Walter Stumpf officiating. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton.
