We are saddened to hear of Mel's death. He was always a kind and gentle soul. We remember to wonderful carpentry work he did for Stan at Langstadt Electric Supply. We thought too of the apple press he made for our children's nursery school after their apple picking outing. We send all of you our condolences at this unexpected and sudden loss.

Dick and Lu Schmidt left a message on April 6, 2009:
With great sadness, we have learned of Mel's passing. Mel worked on our house on a variety of projects over the last 20 years; we considered him a friend. We have such fond memories of Mel as he and Cecil Seidler worked on our house addition. I remember them playing catch with a Mickey Mouse Hoppity Hop on one occassion. One morning, we were awakened as the two of them were playing with wind up cars our children had left on the flooring of the addition, just outside our bedroom window. When Mel went into business for himself, we always thought of him first when we had a new project we wanted to do. Our heart goes out to Barb and all family members; Mel was a wonderful man and will be in our fondest memories forever.

I am so deeply saddened to hear this news. I met Melvin on the Habitat site in Neenah a few days before the dedication. He and others shared information to me about Habitat and Green construction. He had the most expressive eyes and you could hear his passion for his work when he spoke...We will honor his memory when our project takes place. Many blessings to you and your family for your loss. Your memories will always keep him as near to you as your breath! ...sister of Jeanne Watters, past Christ the Rock member!
