Mary Jane Melberg

Mary Jane Melberg, 82, passed away on January 6, 2022. She was born on January 12, 1939 to Richard and Ida Gove. She married Thomas Melberg and spent 36 years together until his passing. They raised a family of four children together.

Mary had a kind and caring way of touching so many lives through her generosity. She was always putting others first. Her family was very important to her. Mary was very active in the Grand Chute Lions Club, and was the first woman to join. She received a lot of recognition over the years, and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship, Knight of Sight Fellowship, and Birch Sturm Fellowship. She also took an active role in the Mission to Mexico with the Lions. Mary and her husband owned Melberg’s Lake Park together for many years, and she later went on to be a beloved cashier at Pick-N-Save.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; parents, Richard and Ida; mother-in-law Marion (Elmer) Hagenson; sister, Ida Lemke; brother, Rick Gove; brother-in-law, Robert Johnson Sr, and sisters-in-law, Judy (Don) Heldt, and Gail Mellberg.

She was survived by her children, Pam (Steve) Schmalz, Larry (Sandi Schober) Melberg, Jennifer (Bill) Toothman, and Richard (Lori Hudson) Melberg; grandchildren, Andrea, Michelle, Samantha, Joshua, Nathan, Andrew, Shelby, Allen, Sabrina, Tiffany, Andrea, Ashley, and Kendra; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Kaitlin, Benjamin, Greta, Henry, Everett, Flynn, Ava, Ethan, Alexis, Emma, Eden, and Ellie Mae; sister, Alvina Johnson; brother, Roy (Violet) Gove; brothers-in-law, Roland Lemke, Robert (Rachel) Mellberg, Jim (Joan) Mellberg, Fritz (Greta) Mellberg, and Robert Johnson; and sister-in-law, Sue Gove. Mary will be remembered by her nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held for Mary on June 11th, 2022, at Lions Park, 3155 N. Longwood Ln, Appleton, WI, 54914.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family.
