Mary E. Johnson

Mary E. Johnson entered eternal life on April 9, 2017 at the age of 86 from Appleton, Wisconsin. Mary was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to Ethel Mae (Care) and Herman O Johnson on January 21, 1931 and spent her childhood in Hartford, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of Lawrence College, Appleton, Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After pursuing a business career in San Francisco, California for 3 years, she returned to her home state of Wisconsin where she taught High School English in the Fond du Lac, Franklin and South Milwaukee School Districts, retiring in 1991.
In her early retirement years, Mary enjoyed world travels, private tutoring and rewarding work as a docent for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Youth Program and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee. Later, she continued to share her gift for teaching by reading with kindergarten students at Blakewood, Rawson and South Milwaukee Elementary Schools.
Mary left written thanks to her wonderful circle of friends and family; the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra; the Chamber, Repertory and Skylight Theaters; and the Milwaukee Art Museum “for innumerable hours of delight”.
Mary is survived by her sister Marjorie A Rosebush of Appleton, WI; nieces Ann McN(Daniel G) Cooke of Alameda, CA and Debra M Johnson of Seattle, WA; nephew John McN (Catherine E) Rosebush Jr of Appleton, WI and nephew-in-law Scott Greenwood of Spokane, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Elizabeth J Johnson and Lois M Sax; her niece Jennifer A Greenwood; and her brothers-in-law John McN Rosebush Sr and Gilbert Sax.
A private graveside ceremony will be conducted at Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester, WI. A Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held in South Milwaukee on Saturday, May 20th. For more information and to express condolences, please visit www.wichmannfuneralhomes.com.
