Age 84, died Saturday afternoon, January 18, 2003, at her home, following a short illness. She was born May 11, 1918, to the late Martin and Nellie (Coonen) Verbeten, in Kimberly and had been a Kaukauna resident all of her life. Mary had been employed by Kaukauna Klub Cheese, the Kaukauna Times and had volunteered with St. Vincent DePaul. She was very active in her church, Holy Cross Catholic Church, where she participated in the prayer chain and organized and managed the making of over 50,000 rosaries, which were sent to foreign countries, given to local prisons and to the military. Mary was active as a prayer partner for children at Holy Cross preparing for First communion. She began the Hourly Devotion for vocations, which prayed for priest vocations. She also started Mission Sunday, which was an educational hour held on Sundays during Lent. She was extremely active in other facets and activities of her church and St. Mary Catholic Church, too numerous to mention. Mary was also a member of the Ladies of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include four sons and 3 daughters-in-law, David and Maureen, Redondo Beach, CA; Carl and Grace, White Lake; Mark, Kaukauna: Alan and Mary, Kaukauna; six daughters and 4 sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Peter Hull, Moreno Valley, CA; Janet Linet, Kaukauna; Patricia Vanevenhoven, Los Angeles, CA; Helen and Gary Wendt, Flagstaff, AZ; Rose Ann and Jim Woloszyk, Elm Grove, WI; Rita and Anthony Gelling, Wyalong, Australia; 13 grandchildren, Keith, Alan, Jr., Amy, Ann, Aaron, Melissa, Celeste, Ryan, Courtney, Tyler, Evan, Nicholas and Simon; a great granddaughter, Taylor Ann. Mary is further survived by a brother, Jeff and Dorothy Verbeten, Kaukauna; two sisters, Sister Catherine Verbeten, Racine; Grace Kugler, Appleton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin O. Vanevenhoven, April 26, 2000, a sister, Dorothy Marolf and a brother Robert Verbeten. The funeral liturgy for Mary will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, with Father Jack Mullarkey officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday, from 9:00 am until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers memorial fund is being established for the Holy Cross Food Pantry.
