Martin ''Marty'' Charles Witt

September 10, 1934 — February 25, 2001

Age 66, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Sunday February 25, 2001 after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born in Dryden, Ontario, Canada on September 10, 1934, son of Clarence and Berniece Witt. In 1954, he left Canada to attend Lewis College of Science and Technology in Lockport, IL and the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. He served in the USAF from 1956 to 1960. On December 21, 1957, he married the former Carol Toms in Minneapolis, MN. In 1960, he began working for Wisconsin Michigan Power Company, which later became Wisconsin Electric Power Company, and retired in 1994. Martin was a member of Peace United Methodist Church, Kaukauna.
Marty is survived by his loving wife, Carol, his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Terry Schlender of DePere and two grandsons, Thomas and Daniel Schlender, also of DePere. One sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and John McGrann, Chelmsford, MA. Three nephews Joel Toms, Milwaukee, Lance McGrann, CA, and Sean McGrann, MA, an aunt, Jessica Witt, Oaklawn, IL, his mother-in-law Laura Toms of Kaukauna, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Joyce Toms, Rockford, IL, and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Berniece Witt, his father-in-law, Jewell Toms, and one nephew, Glen Toms.
A memorial service will be held at Peace United Methodist Church (2300 Wisconsin Avenue) on Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Diane Rew-Gottfried officiating. Inurnment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a memorial will be set up in Marty’s name to be given to Affinity Hospice or Peace United Methodist Church.
