Martha M. Jacobs, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Appleton Retirement Community. She was born on June 11, 1922, the seventh child of the late Walter H. and Eva (Schmalz) Romenesko of Kaukauna. Martha lived in Kaukauna until she was united in marriage to Robert P. Jacobs, the love of her life, on August 7, 1954. They started their married life together, first in Kaukauna, later moving to Appleton. Together they raised three children, Mary (John) Geiger, Sun Prairie, WI; Rick Jacobs, Minneapolis, MN; and Mark Jacobs (Andrea Rugg), Minneapolis, MN. Martha is further survived by her beloved grandson, Lucas Geiger; her sisters, Germaine St. Arnold, Marie (Richard) Powers and Frances Hutton; her sister-in-law, Delores (Lyle) Becker; nieces, nephews and friends—especially Barb Rogers. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert; her infant daughter, Mary Jacobs; her infant brother, Michael, and her brothers Lloyd “Squeeze,” Leon “Butch,” Monroe “Fat,” Orrin and Mark “Spark” Romenesko. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1617 W. Pine Street, Appleton, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna. The family would like to especially thank the staff at Appleton Retirement Community for the extraordinary care given to Martha during her 5 year residence and the staff of ThedaCare at Home Hospice during her last days. A memorial has been established in her name to benefit the Mayo Foundation for Neurological Research (Alzheimer's).
