Marie L. Vanden Bloomen

September 12, 1927 — January 29, 2001

Age 73, passed away Monday, January 29, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Marie was born in Milwaukee on September 12, 1927, daughter of the late August and Rosa (Tiedge) Schmidt. On July 19, 1947, she married Gerald Vanden Bloomen in Milwaukee; he survives. Marie worked as a nurses’ aide for many years at the Kaukauna Community Hospital, and was an avid bingo player. In her earlier years, she enjoyed working with a variety of crafts. She was a member of the VFW Electric City Post #3319 Auxiliary.

Marie is survived by her husband; Jerry Vanden Bloomen of Kaukauna; a daughter: Sue (Tom) Natrop of Kaukauna; three sons: Dennis (Josette) Vanden Bloomen of Eau Claire; Dave (Kathy) Vanden Bloomen of Kaukauna; Rich Vanden Bloomen of Kaukauna; four grandchildren: Gretchen Vanden Bloomen, David Vanden Bloomen and his special friend Emily Olson, Michelle Natrop, and Michael Natrop; a great-grandson: Alex Vanden Bloomen; four sisters: Ella Polinske of Shorewood; Lucille Miller of Milwaukee, Evelyn (John) Wagner of Milwaukee and Audrey (Clarence) Fox of Milwaukee; seven brothers: Ray (Helen) Schmidt of Marshfield; Herman (Lou) Schmidt of Sparks, Nevada; George (Merna) Schmidt of Zephyr Hills, Florida; Wally (Roxanne) Schmidt of Milwaukee; August (Theresa) Korth of Milwaukee; Fred (Pat) Korth of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law: Marie Korth of Milwaukee. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather August Korth, sisters Mabel Pipke and Emma Zawacki, by brothers Les Korth, Cliff Korth, Harold Korth, Art Korth, and by two brothers-in-law Heino Polinske, John Pipke, and Joe Miller.

The funeral liturgy for Marie will be held at 4:30 PM on Thursday, February 1, 2001 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH. 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service.

Jerry and the family would like to express their deepest thanks to the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, especially to the nursing staffs on the 4th Floor and the 2nd Floor ICU for the wonderful care you provided to Marie. A special thanks is extended to Marie’s physicians, Dr. O’ Brien, Dr. Stastny, and Dr. Riess-Sagers – the level of concern you demonstrated to us was wonderful. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
