Marie passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at her home. She was born on June 17, 1910, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to the late John and Emma (Merkel) Hitchler. Marie married Harold Council in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1940; he preceded her in death on July 4, 1982. She was a long-time Christian Science Practitioner; an active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Appleton; was an avid gardener, bowler and enjoyed golf, especially her hole-in-one. Marie is survived by her son, John Council, Appleton; her niece, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Frank; her sister, Florence Young; and her brothers, Edwin and Roland Hitchler. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday April 19, 2004, with Reader Kathy Arthur officiating. Friends may call directly at the funeral home on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial has been established in her name to benefit the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Appleton.
