Marie Fassbender

March 28, 1922 — January 15, 2012

Marie Elizabeth Fassbender, 89, of Hollandtown, Wisconsin, passed away at the St. Paul Home on Sunday, January 15, 2012, after a long illness resulting from many years of extremely high blood pressure. She was born March 28, 1922 in Hilbert, Wisconsin to the late Walter and Isabelle (Ruffing) Campbell. Marie was Salutatorian of the class of 1939, graduating from Hilbert High School. She moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin attending Beauty Culture School, receiving her diploma in 1941. Upon graduation she worked in salons in both Plymouth and Chilton, Wisconsin. On May 7, 1946 she married Bernard (Butch) Fassbender in Hilbert. They celebrated 57 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on October 16, 2003.

Upon her marriage she moved to Hollandtown, where they raised four sons. She was devoted to her husband, Butch, and their family. Living in Hollandtown, she became an active member of St. Francis Parish. Marie not only loved her Catholic faith, she lived it. Her life was one of service, and making sure that those around her were well taken care of, was of the utmost importance. Even in the nursing home, she could be seen getting out of her own wheelchair to try to help someone else. She was giving until the end.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her son Dennis, who at the age of 13 died, due to the result of an accident. Butch and Marie had always reached out to people grieving the loss of a loved one, but after Dennis' death, they felt a special need to reach those who were dealing with the loss of a child.

Further preceding her in death is a brother: Arthur Campbell, a sister-in-law, Angela Campbell; brothers and sisters-in-law: Harold (Mary) Fassbender, Lorraine (Elmer) Vandenberg, Norbert (Stella) Fassbender, Mildred (LeRoy) Gerharz, Hubert (Dolores) Fassbender, Ann (Syd) Derry, Rosemary (Victor) Busse.

Marie is survived by her sons: Richard (Bonnie) Fassbender, Gary (Susan) Fassbender, and Daniel (Wende) Fassbender; nine grandchildren: Richard (Nicole) Fassbender, Kevin (Abbi) Fassbender, Jay Fassbender (Jenny Edinger), Michael (Elena) Fassbender, Kimberly Fassbender, Kathryne Fassbender, Bryan Fassbender, Amanda Fassbender, Jenni Fassbender; and seven great-grandchildren: Tatjana, Braylon, Isabella, Emma, Ila, Gavin and Kaleb. She is further survived by her brother Leo Campbell; sister-in-law: Alvina Campbell, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral liturgy for Marie will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH, ST. FRANCIS SITE, Hollandtown, with Fr. Willard Van de Loo officiating, and Fr. Jerry Pastors concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Lee Vogel for her extraordinary care of Marie over the past 7 1/2 years, and to the staff at the St. Paul Home for their dedicated care during the past 3 1/2 years.
