Age 90, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2008 at Rennes Health Care Center. Marian was born in Reedsville, WI., on May 7, 1917 daughter of the late John and Lynda (Beck) Hale. She graduated from Reedsville High School in 1934. Following graduation Marian began working as a buyer for Henderson-Hoyt Department Store in Manitowoc. She was also an Avon representative in the Appleton area for many years. Marian married Donald Derfus on November 23, 1940 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marcy (Bob) Shuck, Largo, Florida; her grandchildren, Austin (Gayle) Derfus, San Diego, CA., Melissa (Joe) Grimaudo, Lutz, Florida; Jocelyn (Scott) Rothbart, Richmond, Virginia; Kristin Derfus, Gainsville, Florida; two sisters, Clarice Wage, Cedarburg, WI., and Ellen (Allan) Coenen, Land 'O Lakes, WI. She is further survived by special nieces and nephew, Sarah Joyce, Kaukauna; and Sandy and Bob Newby, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and other special nieces and nephews. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her son, Daniel J. Derfus; 2 brothers, John W. (Sarah) Hale; and James (Delores) Hale; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Grace and Al Tews; 2 brothers-in-law, Clarence Wage, and Edward C. Michels, and a nephew, Jack Tews.
The Funeral Mass for Marian will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday April 5, 2008 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sherwood. A memorial is being established.
