Margaret Mary Kilawee

November 9, 1920 — December 2, 2016

Margaret Mary Kilawee, age 96, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2016 at the Skilled Nursing Facility in Door County Medical Center. Margaret was born on November 9, 1920 in Niagara Falls, New York, the first of eleven children born to Patrick and Teresa (Schwin) Kilawee. In 1942, the family made their permanent home in Kaukauna. Margaret attended the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh, earning her B.S. in Education. She then earned her Masters in Early Childhood Education from National College in Evanston. Illinois. Many students were blessed with her guidance as she taught kindergarten and first grade for 32 years. She retired from Edison Elementary in 1982.

Margaret was a lifelong learner who enjoyed reading, music and opera. She loved to travel the world and experience new places. After moving to Baileys Harbor in 1990, she became a volunteer at the Fish Creek music fest, Sodality and the Christ Child Society. Every Saturday she gave her time as a volunteer at the Ridges Nature Sanctuary Center. Margaret will always be remembered as a strong woman of faith, wonderful sister, aunt and God mother.

Margaret is survived by her siblings; Della Milbach of Appleton, Frank Kilawee of Andover, Maine, and Victoria Sullivan of Kaukauna; sister-in-law: Patricia Kilawee of Amherst; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Father Ivo “John” Kilawee, Sister Terence “Marie” Kilawee, Patricia (Dean) Ekstrom, Martin (Lois) Kilawee, Charles Kilawee, Joseph (Barbara) Kilawee, and Richard Kilawee; also brothers-in-law: William Milbach and Clarence Sullivan.

The Funeral Liturgy for Margaret will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street , Kaukauna, with Father Tom Pomeroy celebrating. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. Burial directly to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations benefiting the Holy Cross Renovation Project are greatly appreciated. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.
