PHILIPPI, MARGARET J.

Margaret J. Philippi, age 80, of Menasha, passed away in the early morning of February 6, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. Margaret was born on February 22, 1930, in Appleton, to the late Herman and Laura (Falk) Schultz, the oldest of three children. She displayed a special talent for drawing, painting, and other visual arts from her early childhood. Margaret graduated from Appleton High School in 1948 and was known as “the artist” to her classmates. She married the love of her life, Ken Philippi, on July 2, 1949 in Dubuque, Iowa. They raised six children together, living in or near Appleton the entire time. After the nest was empty, they were able to do some traveling, including a trip to Europe. They especially enjoyed being grandma and grandpa to twelve grandchildren. They were long-time members of Zion Lutheran Church, where Margaret enjoyed participating in Bible study groups for many years. In the last couple months of her life Margaret was privileged to be able to visit and hold one of her three great-granddaughters. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Jack (Deborah) of Stoughton, WI; Gail (Steve) Rench of Houston, TX; Steve (Lisa) Philippi of Minnesota; Ken, Jr. (Laurie) of Iola, WI; and Jill (Bill) Krueger of Menasha. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Miriam Hack of Towson, MD. Her grandchildren include: Nathan; Matthew; Ryan; Ben; Jamie; Carissa; Brian; Nick; Peter; Emily; Megan; and Becky. Her great-grandchildren are: Sophia; Ashlynn; and Sabrina. Margaret is also survived by her brothers: Jim (Carol) Schultz of Neenah; and Dan. She was preceded in death by her husband Ken, Sr., in 2007 and her son Michael in 2009. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011, at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 912 N. Oneida Street, Appleton, with the Rev. Kurt Kovanen officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
