Margaret Burkard

October 27, 1931 — July 12, 2012

Margaret (Marge) Burkard, age 80 of Appleton, died unexpectedly on July 12, 2012. She was born on October 27, 1931 in Oconto to the late Emil and Marie Ziemer. On September 25, 1954 she married Arnold (Arnie) Burkard in Green Bay. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1984.

When her family was young she sold Avon and was well known in the neighborhood as the “Avon Lady”. She later worked as a teller at Valley Bank drive-thru. Going for daily walks was a huge part of her life. No matter where she was, she always made time for a walk. Margaret was a member of St. Pius X Church and volunteered at the church, as well as at St. Vincent DePaul, the Salvatorian Mission at New Holstein and the Thompson Center. She was very active with exercise classes, line dancing, choir, playing bridge and gardening. She enjoyed traveling, going to concerts, community events, her grandchildren's sporting activities and spending time with her many friends. Margaret loved her family and constantly told people how lucky she was to have her four girls close by.

Margaret is survived by her daughters: Sandra (Donald) Daemmrich, Debra (Mark) LaChance, Linda (Douglas) Fyfe, and Mary Mueller (special friend Jim Koeller). She was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Laurie (Chris) Hamilton, Carrie (Adam) Morse; Kelsie, Coley, Travis, Dominik, Collin, Kyleigh, and Bryna LaChance; Patrick and Andrew Rock; 2 step-grandsons: Geoff and Ross (Laura) Fyfe. She lived to see the birth of two great-grandsons: Ethan Hamilton and Nolan Morse. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to spending time with them.

She is also survived by her sisters Elaine Cullen, Dorothy Socha, Joan Erieau, Theresa (Harry) Nehls, Marty Ziemer and her brother Ron (Jan) Ziemer; her sisters-in-law Lolly Burkard, Nancy Burkard, Laverne (Don) Neprud, Mary Jean (Jim) Maricque, Dorothy Bostedt, Donna Willette; brothers-in-law John Gallagher, Jerry (Grace) Burkard, many nieces and nephews, and her special friend Paul Krafft.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law Norbert and Mary Burkard, her sister Dolores Gallagher, her brother Robert Ziemer, her brothers-in-law Bill Cullen, Dick Erieau, Lester Socha, Clarence Burkard, Phillip Burkard, Raymond (Mary) Burkard, Fritz Bostedt, and Tom Willette.

The funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at St. Pius X Church, 500 W. Marquette Street, Appleton with Father Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.

Margaret was an extraordinary person and touched the lives of those who knew her. She will be dearly missed, and her presence will be felt for a lifetime.

Mom, we love you and will miss you. We know you are finally reunited with Dad in Heaven.
