Margaret A. Lecker

July 16, 1929 — October 12, 2010

Margaret Lecker, age 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the Appleton Medical Center during surgery. She was born on July 16, 1929, in Appleton to Paul and Sarah (Niss) Sprister and was a lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She attended St. Paul School and graduated from Appleton High School in 1947. Margy married her high school sweetheart, Carlton Lecker on August 27, 1949. Margaret was a member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid and had been a member of Evening Star Homemakers for fifteen years. Margaret's hobbies were bowling, gardening and poetry, but her family always took first place in her life and heart, especially her grandchildren. Her last place of employment was the Lee Logan Insurance Agency where she was employed from 1976 until 1984.

She is survived by her five children; Michael (Sue) Lecker of Appleton; Robert (Helen) Lecker of Green Bay; Cynthia (James) Reffke of Darboy; James Lecker of Appleton and his special friend Dana Liethen; Joseph (Patricia) Lecker of Appleton; eleven grandchildren: Michael Lecker, Jr., Ronald Lecker and his special friend Ashley Ramaker, Julia (Chad) Miller and their son Drew, Nathan Lecker, Andrew Lecker, William Reffke, Anthony Reffke, James (Melissa) Lecker, Jr. and their sons Drexel and Elias, Emily Lecker and her son Jacob, Stacy Lecker, and Melissa Lecker; a brother: Frank (Gertrude) Sprister; and a sister: Ilene (Merlin) Techlin. Margaret is further survived by two sisters-in-law: Shirley Vermeern of Richmond, Virginia and Mary (Steve) Boese of Yuma, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her brothers Roy and Carl Sprister; three sisters, Dorothy Lewis, Ardella Casper and Alice Wiegand.

The Christian Funeral for Margaret will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street in Appleton with Rev. Kenneth Frey officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:30 PM until 7:30 PM and again at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Memorials for Margaret may be directed to St. Paul Evangelical Church.

Thirty-four years ago, Margy was diagnosed with breast cancer, and for thirty-four years was able to survive that diagnosis. She never lost hope. Our prayer is that her steadfastness and positive attitude may serve as an example to others who battle the disease. She may have had cancer, but it surely didn't have her.

Now I leave my earthly home
For a home with God above
And you, my friends and family
I leave you with my love.
