Age 90, died Wednesday morning, April 30, 2003, at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center. She was born October 14, 1912, in Appleton, to the late John E. and Anna (Prust) Becher. As a small child she moved with her parents to Greenville, WI. Lydes was a 1930 graduate of Appleton High School. In 1940 she married Erwin J. Klein, he preceded her in death on November 22, 1989. They had resided in Appleton, Waupaca and Mackville. Lydes was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tom Aykens, Appleton; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kathy Klein, Appleton; Robert and Mary Klein, Appleton; five grandchildren, Kathryn (Joe) Elrick, Kaukauna; Mary (Jamie) Jurgella, Appleton; Robert Aykens, and his fiancée, Tara Kempf, Appleton; Michael (Sheli) Klein, Appleton; Alexander Klein, Appleton; four step-grandchildren; five great grandchildren, Jacob, Grace and Elizabeth Elrick, all of Kaukauna, Zachary Klein and Brady Jurgella, both of Appleton. She is also survived by a sister, Bernice “Bunny” Murphy, Oak Park, IL, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Jochman and Gertrude Becher and a brother, Orville Becher. The funeral liturgy for Lydes will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, May 3, 2003, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street, with Father John Holly, OFM Cap. officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday, from 9:00 am, until the time of the mass. A memorial fund is being established.
