Luis A. Serron

February 19, 1930 — June 7, 2018

Luis Serron, age 88, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Elizabeth Residence in Bayside, WI. He was born on February 19, 1930 in Iquitos, Peru, son of the late Ladislao Serron and Adita Patow de Serron.

Luis was a true intellectual who spent his life surrounded by books and music. He was an activist for peace, social justice and the environment. Luis gave generously to the causes he believed in. His children have fond memories of him dancing to Latin music and occasionally enjoying a Pisco Sour.

Luis immigrated to the United States from Peru in December of 1948 at the age of 18. He served in the United States Air Force as a weatherman from January 1949 to October 1952. In 1955, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Illinois and then a Master’s Degree in sociology in 1957. Luis went on to complete a PhD in sociology at Washington University in St. Louis. He spent most of his career as a sociology professor at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MN.

Luis is survived by his son Eric Serron (Washington, D.C.), daughters Sonya Simon (Milwaukee, WI) and Tanya Misselt (Saint Paul, MN), sons-in-law Steve Simon and Erik Misselt, grandchildren, Michael Serron, Megan and Audrey Simon, Nicholas and Steven Misselt. He is also survived by his children’s mother, Adelia Serron, and by three siblings, Oscar, Ada Febres and Paula Litten. Luis is preceded in death by two brothers, Ladis and Jorge.

The family wishes to express thanks for the care provided to Luis by the compassionate people with Elizabeth Residence-Bayside, North Shore Companions-Mequon, Home Instead-Appleton, as well as Mary, Elaine, and Nicole.

In lieu of funeral services, Luis is sending his children, their spouses and his grandchildren to his homeland of Peru with his ashes.
